Choose a timeWhat we do for you
Once your taxable turnover passes £90,000 in any rolling 12 months, you have to register for VAT. Some businesses register before that, because their customers are VAT registered too and it lets them reclaim the VAT on what they buy.
We tell you whether and when you need to register, help you pick the scheme that benefits you most, and file every return through Making Tax Digital software so that a quarterly return never slips through the net.

What clients say
5.0 from 15 Google reviews(opens in a new tab)“Georgia has really really helped me over the last 18 months starting up and running a limited company. She is very knowledgable but most importantly efficient and responsive with any questions I have on a weekly basis. Would definitely recommend to anyone.”
“I cannot recommend Georgia at A1 Accounts enough. She has really helped me keep up to date with my limited company. I changed accountants recently to A1 and the service is amazing and leagues above the service I previously received. Really helpful and great value for money! Highly recommend”
VAT registration & returns: questions
Should I register for VAT before I reach the threshold?
Sometimes. If most of your customers are VAT registered businesses, they can claim back the VAT you charge, and you can claim back VAT on your costs. If you sell mainly to the public, registering early usually just makes you dearer. We will tell you which side of that you are on.
What if I have gone over the threshold and not registered?
HMRC can backdate your registration and ask for the VAT you should have charged, plus a penalty. If you think you have gone over, talk to us now rather than later. It is easier to fix early.
